Rory started his musical career in Nashville, Texas where he worked as a songwriter. In the beginning, he often used to perform at nightclubs and bars. Later on, he gained huge appreciation by writing songs for other artists. This includes Blake Shelton, Tracy Byrd, Clary Walker, Kenny Chesney, Randy Travis, Lorrie Morgan, Mark Wills, and Terri Clark.

However, Rory’s first single release as a songwriter was Collin Raye’s Someone You Used To Know. He also wrote another song titled The Chain of Love for Clay Walker. In 2004, Rory founded the Giantslayer Records label.
